Timeline for Applications

AUTHORITY

Income and Employment Supports Act, sections 6(3)(e), 13 and 14(1)

INTENT

Learners have costs associated with training. Financial assistance is provided to those Albertans who establish a financial need for training, and meet all other eligibility criteria.

POLICY

Learners must submit an application for funding before training commences.

Full-time applicants are advised to submit an application well in advance of their training start date. In times of peak demand, it can take several weeks for an application to be finalized at the Learner Income Support Office (LISO). It is recommended that applications are submitted six to eight weeks prior to the training start date.

An individual may apply for funding a maximum of five months prior to the start date of training.

In exceptional circumstances, an individual may apply for funding any time during the period of training, but must apply before the end of their training program. In these cases funding starts for the month that the application was received at LISO, not the start date of the program.

Learners whose application is received by LISO after the last day of training are not eligible for funding.
