Transportation to Day or Employment Programs

INTENT

To provide transportation benefits to enable Barriers to Full Employment (BFE) clients to attend day or employment programs.

POLICY

Provide through the Employment and Transition Support, an allowance for transportation to attend a day or employment program if a client:

  • Is assigned to the BFE sub-type, and
  • Travels by the most economical means of transportation.


Where the individual cannot reasonably be expected to use public transportation (taxi, bus) to travel to the day or employment program, an allowance may be provided to use other appropriate transportation means.

Rate

  • An allowance equal to the actual cost of public transportation (bus pass, taxi) or
  • When public transportation cannot be used, an allowance equal to $0.15 per kilometer.

    Note
    This amount is in addition to rates issued under Employment Training and Transition Supports criteria.

Substantiation
Clients substantiate their need for transportation to a Day or Employment program by providing a document from the program which indicates that the client is enrolled/registered in the program, how often they are to attend, and the length of the program.

PROCEDURES

The worker:

  • Confirms with the SPD worker that transportation is not included as part of the agency contract
  • Documents this confirmation in Compass Comments
