08 Supplementary Benefits

Employment Training and Transition Supports

INTENT

A benefit available to clients to assist with employment and training opportunities.

POLICY

This benefit is provided to cover expenses associated with seeking, accepting and/or maintaining employment (or to start self-employment), to participate in an employment preparation program, to participate in a training program, or to participate in an academic upgrading program. Expenses include any good or service which will enhance employability (e.g., clothing, applications, deposits, testing fees before the start of classes, tools, phone and service fees, grooming, meals, transportation, vehicle repairs, etc.). These may be issued to an applicant or recipient who:

  • Is actively seeking employment according to their Individual Plan, or
  • Is working or starting confirmed employment (including at a sheltered workshop), or
  • Is starting or participating in an employment preparation program (including employment development services), or
  • Is starting or participating in a training or academic upgrading program in accordance with their Individual Plan.


Barriers to Full Employment (BFE) clients attending a day or employment program who require transportation should have travel issued under the Transportation to Day or Employment Program policy.

Substantiation

The worker’s knowledge of the client’s situation, and if the need is identified as part of the client’s Assessment and included on the Individual Plan, no further documentation is required.

If in doubt, additional documentation may be requested, such as:

  • A written job confirmation (or documented contact) from the client’s employer or training provider,
  • Invoices or written estimates for specific needs or costs.

    Up to $566.00 for each adult in the household per calendar year (January 1 to December 31)
