Learner Income Support Benefits

Continuous Supplementary Benefits (General Policies)

Isolated Community Allowance

Income Support, Training and Health Benefits Regulation, Schedule 4, Section 9
Full-Time Learners: Schedules 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Labour)
Full-Time Learners: Schedules 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Advanced Education)

There are higher costs of living associated with living in permanent communities that lack all-weather road access. The Government of Alberta provides an isolated community allowance to assist with the higher costs.

The Government of Alberta may pay an isolated community allowance for each member of a learner household if they reside in a permanent community that does not have all-weather road access.

Members of the learner household including the learner must reside in the community, while attending training, in order to receive the benefit.

The communities include:

  • Fox Lake
  • Tall Cree
  • Fort Chipewyan
  • Chipewyan Lake.

  • $40 per month per household member

A learner must submit a Learner Income Support Application (Full-Time Study) or a Change in Circumstances form. This benefit will be provided automatically, based on the learner address provided.
