Persons Not in Alberta

INTENT

Income Support (IS) benefits are intended for people in Alberta.

POLICY

Persons are eligible for IS only while they are in Alberta with the following exception:

  • A client who is out of the province for legitimate reasons (e.g., out of province job search approved by a Career and Employment Consultant or medical treatment approved by Alberta Health) may be eligible for Core Shelter only, for a maximum of one month, to maintain their existing shelter in Alberta. No other benefits are issued.


The Health Benefits Card is not valid for coverage outside Alberta.

Substantiation

  • Service Plan in which the worker has approved job search outside of Alberta.
  • A medical letter (from their physician or nurse practitioner) substantiating the need to seek medical treatment outside of Alberta.
