Foster care is when children are placed in temporary homes with people they may not have a previous relationship with. Children may stay in a foster home for a few days or many years. Foster parents receives financial compensation, training and support for the care they provide foster children.

The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act

The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act is the legal authority for providing child intervention services in Alberta. It requires the provision of services which can be expected to correct or relieve the problem that caused a child to be in need of protective services.
