Drug Benefit List & Supplement

Clients who receive benefits from some of the programs offered by the Ministry receive coverage for prescription drugs and essential over-the-counter medicines.

Benefits are provided to participants in:

Covered drug products are defined in two lists:

  • The Drug Benefit List (DBL) defines benefits for all Alberta government programs.
  • The Alberta Drug Benefit Supplement provides coverage otherwise not provided for in the DBL (for example, nutrition supplements to children and expectant mothers).The DBL and the DBS are designed for use by pharmacists, doctors, and other medical professionals as general reference. The information is posted for general reference. They are not intended to be scientific guides, prescribing guides, or pricing catalogues, since price listings do not include dispensing fees.
