Attracting and Retaining Child Care Professionals

Alberta Children's Services has several initiatives to help child care programs find and keep qualified staff.

Staff Attraction Incentive

The Staff Attraction Incentive provides a funding incentive to pre/accredited child care programs (licensed day care programs, out-of-school care programs and approved family day home agencies) to recruit trained staff/providers holding a Child Development Worker/Supervisor certificate who are new to the child care field or have not worked in the field for at least six months. The incentive will be paid at the end of the qualifying period and the program is responsible to transfer this funding to the eligible staff/provider.

Careers in Child Care for High School Students

For high school students who want to pursue child care as a career, Alberta Children's Services provides a $2,500 High School Child Care Scholarship to attend post-secondary programs in early learning and child care education.
