Benefits of the Advancing Futures Bursary

The Advancing Futures Bursary supports current and former youth in care as they transition to adulthood. To be eligible, youth must be between 18 to 24 years old when they apply to the program. The program provides social and emotional supports and funding to pursue upgrading, a trade, certificate, diploma or degree. The bursary provides several benefits.

Advancing Futures Bursary provides a wide variety of financial support, including:

  • Up to $40,000 in education funding, including tuition, fees, books, supplies and technology funding.
  • A living allowance
  • Transportation funds
  • The full parent portion of subsidized child care
  • A health benefit plan
  • A damage deposit for an apartment

Funding is available to attend one of over 400 schools, colleges and universities in Alberta. Funding supports education for a wide variety of career areas, including digital medical design, teaching, and plumbing.

We encourage you to let youth know about the bursary early.

  • It can inspire them to stay in school.
  • It will provide time for an Advancing Futures Bursary Program Coordinator to assist case workers and youth with the education portion of a transition plan.

Advancing Futures Bursary can help students plan for their dreams by:

  • Assisting in career investigation.
  • Discussing specific job requirements.
  • Helping clarify career goals.
  • Identifying different education paths to help students achieve their education and career goals.
