Society of Parents and Friends of Michener Centre

The Society of Parents and Friends of Michener Centre has supported Michener Services for over 50 years. The group was formed in 1954 by parents and relatives of residents of the Provincial Training School, a predecessor of Michener Services. Over the years it has provided resources as diverse TV sets and a model railway.

The Society's greatest capital contribution is Camp L.G. Barnes at Gull Lake. It built the year-round holiday camp and still maintains it today in partnership with Michener Services.

The Society acts as a voice for individuals who live at Michener and Youngstown. It has over 200 members. Most are the parents or guardians of people supported at Michener, but membership is open to everyone with an interest in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and advocating on their behalf.
