Home Ownership Information

Affordable and accessible housing is a key support to individuals with developmental disabilities. In the past, the majority of individuals with developmental disabilities have lived in homes that have been owned by someone else and this remains a common way for individuals to have somewhere to call home. More recently more and more individuals with developmental disabilities have taken on home ownership. There can be many benefits for individuals and communities from this approach.

Here are some resources that can help individuals and families in considering home ownership.

In early 2004, a series of Plain Language booklets related to Home Ownership were produced through the PDD Calgary Community Board. While the booklets are not intended to take the place of professional help in buying a home, they do provide some excellent information. Here are links to the six booklets:

Many thanks to the PDD Calgary Board for creating these important resources.
