Family-centred practice is a way of delivering services that recognizes each family is unique and is consistent with the values behind the establishment of the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act.
Recognizing that in most cases the family is the one constant factor in the life of a child, the family is at the centre of the supports provided by the FSCD program.
- Identifies and builds on a family’s existing strengths;
- Recognizes that the family’s informal social support network is a primary resource for meeting the family’s needs;
- Targets family-centred goals through supports and services; and
- Emphasizes and promotes strengthening the parents’ and family’s ability to promote the child’s development.
