Family/Guardian Satisfaction Survey

The Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) programs conduct survey research every two years to learn about the experience and outcomes of families and guardians with a child or adult with a disability who receive supports and services.

Guidelines for Demonstrating Effectiveness
Deciding which supports and services will benefit children with disabilities and their families can be difficult. Occasionally, FSCD is asked to support new or unfamiliar programs and services.

In order to make informed, well-reasoned and fair decisions about whether behavioural and developmental supports and specialized services are effective, the program follows guidelines developed with input from a group of specialists with clinical and research expertise.

These guidelines set out the criteria for deciding if a new or unfamiliar support or service is evidence-based and has been demonstrated to be effective.

Guidelines for Developing an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for Specialized Services
A well devised plan leads to action and is essential for any service designed to produce change. The Family Support for Children with Disabilities program requires that an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) be developed for each family and child receiving specialized services.

An ISP for Specialized Services is individualized to the needs of the family and child, responds to the family’s priorities, reflects an integrated and coordinated service delivery approach and is consistent with the nature of the specialized services approved by the FSCD worker.

This Guide identifies the key elements of an ISP that are required for specialized services, highlights the importance of individualized service planning and supports families and their specialized services team to develop an ISP for specialized services.
