International Day of Persons with Disabilities Event and Grant Guidelines

The United Nations recognizes December 3rd as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). The Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities supports community events that celebrate IDPD in Alberta. The Council supports and provides grants to help organizing committees hold IDPD events in their communities. Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Awards are also presented at these events to recognize leaders in the disability community.

These grants are intented to support IDPD events in Alberta that raise awareness about the importance and value of inclusion of people with disablilties.

This aligns with the principle of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These events will increase “respect for difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity,” along with a continued dedication to inclusion.
