Interactive, experiential, ability awareness event. The participant will be invited to try sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball, and adaptive equipment. The participants will be able to learn how to protect your brain, tie your shoes with one hand, and see demonstrations of others doing it. Participants will have an opportunity to cheer on Special Olympics swimmers at their qualifying swim, and sign up to volunteer for the 2017 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games in Medicine Hat.

Vegreville Enable Photo, Art and Poetry Exhibition Celebrating IDPD.

Open to all ages, this event will include professional photographers, artists and poets. This will be a public exhibit of various forms that show how accessible or inaccessible our community is, and to showcase “Champions” in our community, as well as focusing on challenges people with disabilities face every day.

This event will help to raise awareness of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) by focusing on the United Nations 2016 IDPD theme: “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want”. This theme notes the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the role of these goals in building a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities”.

The school liaison will further promote inclusion of people with disabilities through the local schools.
