Family Violence Death Review Committee

The Family Violence Death Review Committee was established in the Protection Against Family Violence Act as part of the Children First Act in May 2013. Read the news release.

The Committee conducts systemic case reviews of family violence deaths in Alberta and makes recommendations to the Minister of Community and Social Services for changes related to policy, legislation and service delivery for the prevention of family violence in the province.

The Committee membership is made up of those who have extensive knowledge about the issue of family violence, representing many sectors such as legal; law enforcement; health; victim advocacy; social services and academia.

The Committee reports to the Minister and members are appointed through a Ministerial Order for a term of three years.
