Staying positive and determined

Photograph of VeniceVenice’s life has changed dramatically over the past few months. Venice became a first-time Kookum (Grandmother) in January. Fueled by her Kookum Status, and with the support of local community support programs and services, Venice was determined to be successful in finding employment.

Venice struggled with low self-confidence, but she remained positive and determined. Venice went to the Slave Lake Alberta Supports Centre looking for help with her resumé and job search. A Career and Employment Consultant helped Venice examine her skills and abilities, build on her strengths, and get help with updating her resumé and her job search.

Within a short time Venice was offered a full-time job as a Support Worker at the White Buffalo Healing Centre for Youth, and continues to be a good role model for her family and her community.
