Success builds on success

Photograph of DonDon approached the Peace River Alberta Works Centre for help switching careers. Medical issues had forced him to leave behind his career as a heavy equipment operator. Don developed a plan of action with his Career and Employment Consultant. He first earned his GED and then got help with his resumé and job search. Don quickly found work as an oilfield consultant. When his contract ended, and the whole industry slowed down, Don turned to the Alberta Works Centre again for more career advice. Don wasn’t getting any callbacks from employers and was growing frustrated and discouraged. Don’s Career and Employment Consultant recommended changes to his resumé and ways to expand his job search, including looking for work outside the community. Don’s flexibility paid off and he got new oilfield contract in Fort McMurray.

During a recent visit to the Alberta Works Centre, Don thanked the staff for their support and for helping him learn the skills needed to successfully find employment.
