Christina, a single mom of two, was new to town and was interested in starting her own photography business, but the odds were against her. Medicine Hat already had 50 other local photographers trying to make a go of it. Christina attended Community Futures Entre-Corp's Self-employment Training Program, funded by the Government of Alberta. Christina also received Alberta Works Income Support Learner Benefits while she took the training and grew her business. "The Self Employment Program was awesome. It helped me categorize my thoughts into a great business plan."

Christina decided to specialize in artistic wedding photography and offer boudoir, grad and family portraits as her secondary markets. She uses a unique strategy to draw in clients for multiple sessions - making them loyal, repeat customers. This strategy is one of the secrets of her success. Christina exceeded her first year cash flow projections and is excited to see what year two brings. "Last year, I was just happy to be bringing in cash. This year, I'm pushing my projections and my year-to-date from this time last year is already up $1,000."
