Have fun while job seeking? Absolutely!

Photograph of SophiaAfter being laid off from her job as a drafting technologist, Sophia had been searching for work for five months before attending the Youth Employment Centre (YEC).

While Sophia had solid professional work experience, the youth employment counsellor at YEC identified a need to develop her skills in resumé and cover letter writing, job searching and expanding her professional network. She was introduced to informational interviews, interview coaching and resumé writing. She was encouraged to join the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals (ASET) and was connected to a recently hired team member with a local engineering and geomatics firm.

Using what she learned from YEC, Sophia obtained a full-time position as a junior CAD technologist. She credits YEC in having helpful and knowledgeable staff. She says, “they always have a lot of good ideas and it’s always fun to work with them.”
