Never too old to learn

Photograph of MarcelMarcel was laid off from his Heavy Equipment Operator job at the end of January 2016. He was looking for another job, but he was not having much luck. Marcel approached Alberta Works for help.

His Career & Employment Consultant referred him to BGS Services for help with his resumé and job interview skills. Marcel found the workshops extremely helpful, but he was still having trouble securing a job.

He told his consultant that he needed safety tickets to qualify for the jobs that he was applying for, but he didn’t have enough money for the courses.

Alberta Works helped cover the cost of Marcel’s safety courses and he has since found full-time employment as an equipment operator with a national company.

“I want to thank my Career and Employment Consultant for pointing me in the right direction and helping me get the safety tickets I needed. I got a full-time job and start this month.”

Losing your job can affect how you feel about yourself. Marcel said that he liked how his consultant worked with him—he said that he felt dignity and respect.

Marcel also wants everyone to know that you’re never too old to learn.
