Learning to believe in herself as a strong capable woman

Photograph of MaghanMaghan had a difficult childhood living in poverty and surrounded by addiction. This life led to her own fight with addictions and depression as a young adult, but after her daughter was born, she committed to stopping the cycle.

Maghan connected with Alberta Works in Peace River, and was provided with financial support, as well as the tools and encouragement she needed to feel confident enough to re-enter the work force. Alberta Works referred Maghan to Accredited Support Living Service’s (ASLS) Transition to Employment program. The Transition to Employment program assists Income Support recipients re-enter the workforce.

With the program’s assistance, Maghan improved her personal and professional skills and it wasn’t long before she had her first job. Maghan quickly progressed in her career path and is now an employment counsellor in the Transition to Employment program. Her favourite aspect of the job is seing the improvement in her clients’ self worth and the positive decisions they make after completing the program.

“I enjoy being able to offer these services, and assisting others to connect to the servies that they require to become successful in their own lives.”
