Finding new direction and hope for the future

Photograph of DuaneDuane struggled with addictions for many years and had been in and out of several addiction treatment facilities. After completing his last detox program, he went to the High Level Alberta Works Centre for assistance.

High Level Alberta Works Centre staff helped Duane apply for the Income Support program and referred him for admission to the Bridges Transitions to Success Program run by the High Level Native Friendship Centre. In addition to referring clients to the program, Alberta Works partners with the program by providing all of its employability workshops.

Through the Bridges Program, Duane was able to access counselling, learn life skills, and build a strong resumé. He said, “I have learned the consequences of my choices and how they affect my life.” After a tour of the local mill, Tolko Industries, that was organized by the Bridges program, Duane was hired and has been working there for seven months.
