Upgrading first step on road to employment success

Photograph of Louise

Louise became a single mother in 2007 and was struggling to work a part-time job and raise her three children.  She knew the path to a better life for her and her children was through education.

With funding as an Alberta Works Learner, Louise started her Academic Upgrading at Grande Prairie Regional College in September 2007. She completed the prerequisites for the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program in 2009. Louise received student loans through Student Aid Alberta for the remainder of her post-secondary studies and completed her Nursing degree in April 2013.

Louise said, “Alberta Works was able to provide financial assistance to my family. I would not have been able to do this without Alberta Works.”
