Overcoming job loss to find new confidence

Photograph of JohnHealth problems forced John to leave his forestry job after 20 years in the industry. He wanted to keep working and so Alberta Works staff referred him to the Employment Readiness Program with Accredited Supportive Living Services (ASLS) for help finding a new career.

John completed ASLS’s 10 weeks of employment readiness training and is now employed as a dishwasher in a High Prairie restaurant with future opportunities to move up to a prep cook position.

With steady employment and healthier lifestyle choices, John was able to move into his own place and was also able to reconnect with his family.  He said “It brought my family closer together.

Since his graduation, John has been a guest speaker at the ASLS employment readiness program. He enjoys telling students about his success and how well employment and a great personal life go hand in hand. He says “This program was an eye opener and helped me a lot.”
