From homeless to hopeful

Photograph of KarenKaren had experienced struggles in her life—including homelessness and hopelessness. In 2012, Karen’s partner encouraged her to take part in the employment preparation program at Alberta Job Corps.

Job Corps hired Karen and assigned her to work at the Habitat for Humanity Restore performing customer service, light cleaning and organizing store merchandise.

Karen credits the employment workshops she attended as a major contributor to her personal growth. The workshops really pushed her out of her comfort zone and helped her build her communication skills.

Habitat for Humanity was pleased with her work and hired Karen as a paid employee. That was three years ago and Karen is still happily employed at the Restore.

Karen is grateful for the opportunity she had to take part in the Alberta Job Corps program—that opportunity and a lot of hard work has helped Karen move forward in life. Karen has found hope and she wears it with pride.
