Claudette and Brad

Adoptee Brad and Birth Mother Claudette
Reunited in 2008

I met Brad on a perfect, beautiful warm summer Saturday afternoon on June 21st 2008. I knew he was mine the minute I saw him step out of his vehicle. He walked across the boulevard, up the sidewalk, and onto the veranda of our house. I stood watching him, my feet frozen in fear to the floor. Without hesitation he put his arms gently around me and whispered, “hi mom”. It was so natural and yet so strange and wonderful. This six foot tall handsome man that I had been waiting for was in my arms. I was terrified, shaking and felt totally surrounded in perfect happiness. I told him this was the first time I had touched him. I still don’t know why, but I took his hand and examined it closely.

He has the most amazing smile and a charm that would melt any mother’s heart. I was instantly in love and couldn’t take my eyes off of him. We had pictures taken within minutes of meeting each other. He is kind, gentle, and caring. He makes me laugh. I could see we are very much alike in our thinking and of our outlook on life. We both like to have fun. His family is the most important thing to him. Kim, his wife is his best friend. He said he was okay and has had a good life. He was raised in a good home, is close to his father, and says he is his hero. I couldn’t be happier for him.

I had been searching for him since 1991 and longing to meet him since 2004. That’s when I received the identifying information from the Post Adoption Registry. Brad didn’t know until January of 2008 that he had been adopted. In March Brad and his brother Bob, also adopted, registered for their documents. He is 43 years young and has filled the missing piece of my heart perfectly. He has taken my heart and healed it completely.

Brad has a full brother and sister, Michelle and Michael and a half brother Daniel. He is the oldest, and the one we have been waiting for. I have loved him since he was born, but we are new to him so I must be patient. This is life altering for him and his family. He has a family; Kimberley, my wonderful new daughter-in-law, Steven my gregarious new grandson, and sweet adventurous new granddaughter, Jessica. I’ve just met them and they fit our family like a glove. I’m so glad. I am blessed in ways that are profound and intense.

My heart is full of love, excitement and curiosity. They have enriched and energized my life and I want to spend as much time with them as they’ll let me. Brad is nervously looking forward to meeting everyone in the family. We are all overjoyed.
