Adult Adoption Act

Applicants who use this legislation may include:

  • parents who have raised a child as foster parents, but who were never able to adopt the child, and now all parties wish to formalize the relationship; or
  • step parents who were unable to adopt a child with whom they have formed a close relationship, and now all parties all wish to formalize the relationship; or
  • adult adoptees who have been reconnected with their birth family, and now all parties wish to formalize the relationship.

The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act

The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act is the legal authority for providing child intervention services in Alberta. It requires the provision of services which can be expected to correct or relieve the problem that caused a child to be in need of protective services.
