Indicators of Child Abuse

If you suspect a child is being abused, call 310‑0000 to obtain the telephone number of your local office or call the Child Abuse Hotline: 1‑800‑387‑KIDS (5437).

We all have a responsibility to prevent child abuse.

Recognize potential warning signs:

  • Unexplained bruises, injuries or burns
  • A child who is consistently hungry, dirty, and/or unsuitably dressed for the weather
  • A young child who is often left alone
  • Consistently withdrawn, angry, or displaying hostile behaviour
  • Unusually developed knowledge of sex, or sexualized behaviour
  • Hinting or talking about sexual abuse
  • Repeated running away from home
