08 Supplementary Benefits

Natal and Adoptive Needs Payment

INTENT

To assist with the additional costs associated with having a newborn baby.

POLICY

The full natal allowance is provided (for infant clothing, toiletries, crib, mattress, bedding, high chair, stroller and infant car seat) only once for each pregnancy/child when one of the following conditions are met.

  • The applicant, recipient or a dependant within the household is pregnant and is within 1 month of their expected due date or
  • A child has been adopted or born into a household and the child is not more than twelve months old.


Households where a dependant has a child are also eligible if they meet the above conditions.

Substantiation
Verbal statement or Worker’s knowledge of client’s situation, and if in doubt:

  • A letter from their physician or nurse practitioner indicating their due date, or
  • An official document containing the child’s name and birthdate such as a birth certificate, hospital records, PHN, etc.
