INTENT

To ensure families who are not receiving the full Federal Child Benefit (maximum NCBS) portion of the Canada Child Benefit qualify (if eligible) for the Child Supplement Allowance (NCBS Replacement Benefit).

POLICY

The Federal Child Benefit amount represents the maximum monthly NCBS portion of the Canada Child Benefit. From July 2016 to June 2017, the Government of Canada has calculated the monthly Federal Child Benefit amount (NCBS maximum) as follows:

  • $192 per month for the first child;
  • $170 per month for the second child; and
  • $162 per month for the third and each subsequent child.

From July 2016 to June 2017, Income Support program staff are required to use the Federal Child Benefit amount (NCBS maximum), shown above, when conducting the liquid asset test and/or determining eligibility for the Child Supplement Allowance (i.e., NCBS Replacement Benefits).
