Schedule 4 Supplementary Income Support

Section 6 Special transportation and travel

  1. A special transportation and travel payment may be provided if a member of the household unit incurs unusual travel related expenses as approved by the Director

    1. for health, safety or treatment reasons,

    2. to comply with Part 5 of the Act, or

    3. to make a mandatory appearance in court in a criminal proceeding in Alberta.

  2. The special transportation and travel payment that may be provided under subsection (1)

    1. is for the most economical and reasonable means of travel in the circumstances as determined by the Director in the following order of preference:

      1. the actual cost of public transportation;
      2. a per kilometre allowance for use of a personal vehicle;
      3. the actual cost of a taxi,

      and

    2. may include

      1. if an overnight stay is necessary, the actual cost of reasonable accommodation, and
      2. if the travel is for more than 24 hours, a daily food allowance.
