AUTHORITY
Income Support, Training and Health Benefits Regulation, Section 44 (7) (d) and 97 (1) (h)
Training Provider Regulation, Section 5(1)(i)

INTENT

To be eligible for income support and/or training benefits an individual must be accepted and regularly attending an approved training program.

The Government of Alberta must be notified immediately when an individual is no longer regularly attending training.

POLICY

Individuals who never attend, withdraw, or are withdrawn from a training session are no longer eligible for Income Support and/or training benefits.

Individuals are considered to have withdrawn from training when they:

  • Notify the training provider they will no longer be attending, are withdrawing or have withdrawn or
  • Expelled by the training provider; or
  • Have not met acceptable attendance requirements
  • Complete the training program earlier than the scheduled completion date

The actual withdrawal date is considered to be:

  • The last of attendance; or
  • The last day of the excused absence

If more than one event impacts the individual, the earliest date will be used.

It is an individual’s responsibility as well as the training provider’s to notify the Learner Income Support Office (LISO) immediately when an individual does not attend, withdraws from or drops a course for which income support and/or training benefits have been provided.

Income Support and/or training benefits will be terminated effective the day following the individual's last day of attendance or excused absence.

Training providers email (LISO) at LISO.WDNOSHOW@gov.ab.ca when an individual does not attend training or withdraws from a training session. Please include the following:

  • Learner's name
  • Learner's address
  • Learner's date of birth
  • Learner's identification (if known)
  • Reason for withdrawal
  • Date of last attended and/or never attended

Due to FOIP concerns, one email per Individual Reason for Withdrawal will be accepted. LISO will send back email to training provider if more than one learner's name is identified.

An individual may use a Change in Circumstances form or submit a letter to notify LISO of their cancellation or withdrawal from training to:
