Introduction

Alberta Child Support Guidelines and Tables
CASS Regulation Section 4
IESA Section 29 and Section 30

INTENT

To ensure Child Support Services (CSS) uses appropriate legal resources to meet the program goals.

POLICY

Financial support for dependent children is the responsibility of both parents. If the parents have not been able to reach a reasonable agreement for support based on the Alberta Child Support Guidelines and Tables, the Child Support Worker (CSW) provides assistance by negotiating an EMP 45 Support Agreement, or by obtaining a court order.

Several legislation is used in the administration of the CSS program.

Legal Services and Child Support Services

To meet the mandate of the CSS program, legal support is required from Alberta Justice Social Enhancement Legal Team and Alberta Community and Social Services Legislative Services. Community and Social Services entered into a protocol with Alberta Justice to address the services provided by Alberta Justice Social Enhancement Legal Team and the role of Legislative Services.
