Establishing a New Residence (Community Start-Up Benefit)

INTENT

To assist clients who are leaving an institution or an abusive situation with the cost of establishing a new residence

POLICY

In order to receive a personal benefit, the eligibility criteria as outlined in the Personal Benefits section must be met.

Clients who are leaving an institution or are escaping abuse may be provided with a benefit to establish a new residence (previously the community start-up allowance). Assistance is provided to help cover the cost of essential items required to set up a new residence.

There is no minimum amount of time a client is required to have lived in an institution prior to receiving this benefit. Clients who continued to receive AISH benefits during temporary admissions to institutions and residential addiction treatment facilities are not eligible to receive this benefit.

This benefit is issued once, however, consideration may be given to granting additional benefits in exceptional circumstances.

Substantiation

  • Verbal or written statement from the client.
  • AISH Workers may request additional documentation if the AISH Worker deems it necessary.

Rate
Actual cost to a maximum of $1,130.00.
