Child Benefit

Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Act, section 3
Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped General Regulations, sections 1(2)(b), 2 and 6(4)

To assist clients with costs associated with raising their dependent children.

AISH provides a child benefit of $100 per month to AISH clients for each dependent child. To be eligible for the child benefit, a client must have $3,000 or less in assets or be in a situation of financial hardship.

If two AISH clients are cohabiting partners, only one child benefit is provided for each dependent child.

In cases of separation, a client may continue to receive the child benefit if the client has a shared parenting agreement and the dependent child resides approximately equal time with each parent in a given month. If both parents in this situation are AISH clients, each parent may receive the full child benefit.

Community and Social Services Child Support Services (CSS) program may assist an AISH applicant or client to pursue child support payments for a dependent child. These payments are exempted as income by AISH.

To determine an applicant or client’s eligibility for AISH, the child benefit is added to the living allowance or modified living allowance.
