Underpayments

INTENT

To describe how an underpayment is assessed and ensure clients receive the full amount of benefits to which they are entitled.

POLICY

An underpayment arises when a client does not receive a benefit they were entitled to receive, or when they were issued less than they were eligible for. This occurs whether the underpayment was a result of inaccurate or missing information or as a result of an administrative error.

AISH assesses underpayments for the entire time the client received less benefits than they were eligible to receive and reimburses the client for the full amount of the underpayment.

Clients are responsible to provide AISH accurate information on their financial and medical situations, as the information may affect their eligibility or level of benefit. Inaccurate information may lead to an underpayment.

Note
Underpayments may be used to reduce outstanding debts an AISH client or former AISH client has with the Government of Alberta (including AISH debts), before any remaining amounts are provided to the client.
