Procedures for Issuing Child Supplement Allowance

Career Employment Consultants and/or Supports and Financial Services Coordinators determine the Child Supplement Allowance amount that applicants and recipients are eligible to receive (if any) by reviewing:

  • The Canada Child Benefit Verification form, as completed by the Help Desk; or
  • Substantiation from the Canada Revenue Agency, as provided by the applicant/recipient, confirming his/her Canada Child Benefit entitlement.

Monthly Canada Child Benefits Exceed $205 per Dependent Child

If the applicant or recipient is receiving monthly Canada Child Benefits that exceed $205 per child, the Worker Records in Mobius Notes:

  1. That the Canada Child Benefit amount actually received by the household has been substantiated;
  2. The monthly dollar value for Canada Child Benefits actually received by the household unit.

Not Receiving the Maximum Canada Child Benefit Amount

If a household is not receiving the maximum Canada Child Benefit, the Worker determines whether the family is eligible for the Child Supplement Allowance.  If the household does not qualify for Canada Child Benefits or their monthly payment amount is less than $205 per child, the Worker Records the following information in Mobius Notes:

  1. That the Canada Child Benefit amount actually received by the household has been substantiated;
  2. The monthly dollar value for Canada Child Benefits actually received by the household unit.

Once the actual Canada Child Benefit entitlement has been verified, the Worker:

  1. Determines the Child Supplement Allowance amount that the household is eligible to receive (if any), as well as the time-frame for issuing this benefit; and,
  2. Issues the Child Supplement Allowance in accordance with IS program policy eligibility criteria.

To calculate the Child Supplement Allowance amount and issue benefits, the IS Worker:

  1. Subtracts the monthly Canada Child Benefit amount that the family actual receives (if any) from the Child Supplement Allowance maximum of $205 per dependent child; and
  2. Issues the difference under Need Code 1738 Child Supplement Allowance.
