Expected to Work (ETW)

Client Sub-Type 14 Available for Work/Training

Clients who are unemployed but available for work/training. Clients must look for work or prepare for the job market through training, work experience programs, or rehabilitation services. Clients in this sub-type are a priority for employment and training services; therefore, an Employability Assessment in Mobius must be completed.

This sub-type includes clients who may have income from sources other than employment; for example, they may be awaiting or receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. These clients:

  • Are available for employment and actively seeking employment
  • Work less than five hours a week and/or
  • May have a range of barriers to employment and require one or more of the following interventions:

    • assistance with resume writing, interview and job search techniques
    • short-term courses, pre-employment programs or skill training
    • employment preparation services
    • job maintenance skills
    • early intervention for addictions/substance abuse
    • academic upgrading and/or career planning
    • motivational techniques
    • life management
    • addictions counseling
    • literacy training
    • settlement services (special and specific services required by immigrants)
    • English as a Second Language (ESL) training

In addition to the expectations for all ETW clients, clients who are available for work/training are also required to:

  • Actively seek employment and accept any reasonable job and not limit themselves to a specific job or a specified pay range.
  • Maintain and provide, upon request, an accurate record of attempts to secure employment including dates of phone and personal contacts, interviews and results of activities.
  • Complete an EI application, if applicable.

When a client is receiving EI benefits, they must provide proof of income. When a client has applied for and is awaiting EI benefits, the client’s verbal statement is the standard requirement. Workers verify this verbal declaration by using WebAOBLink. Other substantiation required should be noted on the Service Plan.
