Funeral Benefits
Income Support, Training and Health Benefits Regulation, Schedule 4, section 25
INTENT
To assist learners and/or members of the learner household with the cost of a funeral of a member of the learner household.
POLICY
The Government of Alberta may provide funeral services per the Agreement with funeral homes in Alberta, if:
- a member of the learner household dies, and
- financial resources are inadequate, and
- there are no other means to pay for the funeral cost
Funeral benefits are delivered by Common Service Delivery (CSD). Applications for funeral benefits are submitted by the funeral home to the Health and Funeral Benefits Unit at CSD. Family or Estate Administrators should contact the funeral home to discuss the funeral planning.
Funeral homes that contact IS worksites or the Learner Income Support Office should be referred to:

Fax 780-643-9228 in Edmonton; or toll-free 1-855-643-9228 outside Edmonton.
Funeral applications can be sent by email to css.funeralbenefits@gov.ab.ca or faxed to 780-643-9228 .
The Learner Income Support Office (LISO) does not determine eligibility or process funeral benefits.
