Learner Income Support Benefits

Continuous Supplementary Benefits (General Policies)

Training Transportation

AUTHORITY

Income Support, Training and Health Benefits Regulation, Schedule 4, section 7
Full Time Learners:  Schedules 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Advanced Education)
Full Time Learners:  Schedules 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Labour and Immigration)

INTENT

The Government of Alberta recognizes that certain learners have additional travel costs that need to be met in order for the learner to succeed in training. This benefit assists learner households with travel costs in specific situations.

POLICY

The Government of Alberta may pay travel costs for a full-time learner to travel to an approved training program if:

  • the learner resides in a different community from the place of training, and 
  • there is no public transportation between the communities

PROCEDURE

The learner submits either a Learner Income Support Application (Full Time Study) or a Change in Circumstances for Learners form with an Additional Continuous Benefits form to the Learner Income Support Office (LISO) requesting the benefit.
