Part 1 Income Support and Benefits and Training Benefits

Division 3 Learner Household Units, Budgetary Requirements, Section 54 Sponsored immigrants

  1. If a member of a learner household unit is a sponsored immigrant who is eligible to receive income support and benefits,

    1. the assets, liquid assets, excess of certain assets and financial resources of the sponsor are to be considered as belonging to an eligible adult member of the household unit for the purpose of sections 47 to 50,

    2. section 50(4) does not apply to the financial resources of the sponsor’s household unit, and

    3. the budgetary requirements include an equivalent amount for the sponsor’s household unit for the purpose of section 49.

  2. Subsection (1) does not apply if, in the opinion of the Director, the sponsored immigrant has been abused or abandoned by the sponsor.
