Alberta Child Health Benefit (ACHB)

Intent

ISTHB Regulation, Section 73 states the types of health benefits covered and the lists and agreements governing health benefits under the ACHB program.

ISTHB Regulation, Section 90 states the eligibility rules for the ACHB program.

Health Benefits: Qualifying Income Levels Ministerial Order sets out the maximum qualifying income levels for determining financial eligibility for the health benefits at application or annual renewal.

INTENT

The ACHB is Alberta’s principal National Child Benefit (NCB) reinvestment strategy that focuses on reducing child poverty and promoting parental attachment to the workforce. ACHB ensures children of low-income families have access to health benefits that contribute to health and well-being, including improving school performance.

As of April 1, 2014 the program is administered by Alberta Health; however, enrollment in the program continues to be through Community and Social Services.
