Alberta Adult Health Benefit (AAHB) coverage is terminated:

  • If the household becomes eligible for IS or AISH.

  • On renewal, if the household total income shown on the AAHB Tax Information Report exceeds the qualifying income level, or the exception to qualifying income level, and client has not successfully appealed the denial of AAHB.

  • For a child on the file, when they turn 18, unless the child is attending school (K-12) full-time and living with a parent or guardian, in which case, when the child turns 20 or is no longer attending school.

  • For a member of a household who turns 65. A spouse under 65 and any dependant children continue to receive the AAHB.
  • When the client is deceased. Surviving family members are permitted a one-month transition period.
  • For pregnant women, at the end of the month in which the baby is due.  Children in the household can be enrolled in the ACHB program as long as the household income does not exceed the qualifying income level.
