INTENT

To ensure assistance clients who are eligible for Child Support Services (CSS) are appropriately referred.

POLICY

Assistance Referrals

The financial worker refers all single parents and parents of blended household units to Child Support Services (CSS). Referrals are done according to the procedures outlined in the Income Support Expected to Work/Barriers to Full Employment Policy & Procedures Manual, and the CSS policy manual for Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) and Alberta Adult Health Benefit (AAHB) clients.

The financial worker refers all new and re-opened files to the CSW when one of the parents is not included as either Head of Household or Spouse/Partner on the budget.

When completing file reviews for ongoing assistance clients, the financial worker refers the file to the Child Support Worker (CSW) when changes have occurred in the household situation. These changes include:

  • A new dependant has been added to the budget and one of the parents for that dependant is not part of the household unit,
  • A change in marital status has occurred which results in a situation where one of the parents is no longer part of the household unit receiving assistance,
  • A change in marital status has occurred which results in a situation where both parents are part of the household unit receiving assistance,
  • An existing dependant was not previously referred, or
  • A file is identified as an incomplete CSS referral

Self Referrals

An applicant in receipt of assistance may contact the CSW when a change occurs in their circumstances e.g. The applicant has new information regarding the respondent.
