Maintenance of Equipment

MO-2018-21 - Personal Benefit Rates and Frequencies

INTENT

To assist with the cost of maintenance of medical equipment when it is essential to manage the client’s or dependent child’s condition.

POLICY

In order to receive a personal benefit, the eligibility criteria and conditions as outlined in the Personal Benefits section must be met.

The AISH program may provide coverage for maintenance or repairs to essential medical equipment. 

The Maintenance of Equipment benefit is limited to:

    • Repair and maintenance of privately purchased manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters,
    • Replacement tires and batteries for power wheelchairs and scooters, and
    • Labour and shipping costs associated with this benefit.

Substantiation
The client provides: 

    • Verbal confirmation of who paid for the equipment.
    • One vendor quote including:
      • Confirmation that the repair is not covered under warranty,
      • Product type and name,
      • Serial number,
      • Manufacture date,
      • Itemized list of estimated repair costs or batteries including parts and labour, and
      • Shipping costs (if any).
    • AISH Workers may request additional documentation if the AISH Worker deems it necessary.

Rates
If the essential medical equipment is cost effective to repair, the AISH program covers the actual reasonable cost of the maintenance up to maximum amounts listed below. Amounts and frequencies below are established by the Alberta Aids to Daily Living program.

Manual Wheelchair Rates

    • Manual wheelchair maintenance and repairs: up to $498.00 per 12 month period for necessary maintenance and repairs.
      • Including labour costs.
      • Not including shipping costs.
    • Manual wheelchair rental: up to $34.00 per week while the essential manual wheelchair is under repair.
      • Some vendors may provide free loaner equipment during the repair.
    • Manual wheelchair labour: up to $70.00 per hour for maintenance or repair.
    • Manual wheelchair shipping and delivery:
      • Within the city: up to $52.00 round trip
      • Rural address: actual reasonable cost up to $166.00 round trip

Power Wheelchair Rates

    • Power wheelchair maintenance and repairs: up to $664.00 per 12 month period for necessary maintenance and repairs.
      • Including labour costs.
      • Not including shipping costs.
    • Power wheelchair rental: up to $72.00 per week while the essential power wheelchair is under repair.
      • Some vendors may provide free loaner equipment during the repair.
    • Power wheelchair labour: up to $84.00 per hour for maintenance, repair or battery installation.
    • Power wheelchair batteries: up to $664.00 per 12 month period for a set of two batteries.
    • Power wheelchair shipping and delivery:
      • Within the city: up to $62.00 round trip.
      • Rural address: actual reasonable cost up to $476.00 round trip.

Power Scooter Rates

    • Power scooter maintenance and repairs: up to $664.00 per 12 month period for necessary maintenance and repairs.
      • Including labour costs.
      • Not including shipping costs.
    • Power scooter labour: up to $84.00 per hour for maintenance, repair or battery installation.
    • Power scooter batteries: up to $664.00 per 12 month period for a set of two batteries.
    • Power scooter shipping and delivery:
      • Within the city: up to $62.00 round trip.
      • Rural address: actual reasonable cost up to $476.00 round trip.
