Requesting Additional Personal Benefits

AUTHORITY
Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Act, sections 3(1)(a) and 3.2
Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped General Regulation, sections 2(c), 2.01(1)(d)(ii), 2.01(2)(b), and 8(1)(b) and 8(2)

INTENT

To provide a means for clients to request additional personal benefits that are not normally provided by AISH.

POLICY

Unique needs and circumstances may exist where a client or client’s dependent child requires goods or services that are not normally provided by AISH. The AISH program may provide additional personal benefits where a need is demonstrated.

The following eligibility requirements for requesting additional personal benefits must be met:

  • The client must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Personal Benefits section;
  • The need must not already be addressed with any other personal benefit;
  • No other resources are available to meet the need;
  • All existing alternatives have been considered;
  • All avenues of appeal for provision of the benefit through other programs have been exhausted;
  • Providing the benefit would significantly assist in managing their disability;
  • Not providing the benefit would be detrimental to health; and
  • The least costly alternative is used.

These decisions are not appealable.
