Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped General Regulation, section 1.1 and section 2(a)

INTENT

To assist clients with costs associated with raising their dependent children.

POLICY

AISH provides a monthly benefit for dependent child(ren) of an AISH client.

If two AISH clients are cohabiting partners, only one child benefit is provided for each dependent child.

In cases of separation/divorce, a client may continue to receive the child benefit if the client has a shared parenting agreement and the dependent child resides approximately equal time with each parent in a given month. If both parents in this situation are AISH clients, each parent may receive the full child benefit.

Seniors, Community and Social Services Child Support Services (CSS) program may assist an AISH applicant or client to pursue child support payments for a dependent child. These payments are exempted as income by AISH.

To determine an applicant or client’s eligibility for AISH, the child benefit is added to the living allowance or modified living allowance.

Rate

  • $222.00 per month for the first dependent child and
  • $111.00 per month for each additional dependent child.
